A useful audit shows what was checked, what the evidence supports, and what the practice should do next. It should distinguish an observed result from a hypothesis and an inaccessible item from a verified problem.

Define the scope first

Agree the practice location, services, website, selected listings, sample prompts, and review period. A complimentary initial review can identify starting points; a full documented audit and implementation need their own agreed scope.

Document the search tests

For each tested prompt, retain the exact wording, date, search mode, relevant location or personalization context, answer, citations, and whether the practice was mentioned. Record repeats separately. Do not label a business “absent from ChatGPT” based on one response.

Review the technical foundations

Inspect accessible robots.txt rules, indexing directives, sitemap, canonical URLs, navigation, and relevant pages. Check whether structured data describes the visible business accurately. If hosting logs or security rules are unavailable, mark actual crawler access as unverified.

Check business information

Compare the practice name, address, phone, hours, services, and appointment options across the website and selected public listings. Record each source and the date checked before recommending a correction.

Deliver a practical action plan

  • Verified finding and its supporting URL or test record.
  • Why the finding matters and what remains uncertain.
  • Recommended change, suggested priority, and responsible owner.
  • Any access, content approval, or dependency needed.
  • A follow-up check to evaluate the change.

What an audit should not promise

An audit cannot guarantee rankings, citations, lead volume, or patient revenue. Third-party mentions and testimonials must be genuine. Case studies must reflect actual work and clearly explain the measurement conditions.
